Torchlight Infinite tier list for SS14 Tartarus
The league starters and endgame builds to take into Tartarus, ranked separately, because the heroes that start a season best are not the ones that end it strongest.
A single tier list for Torchlight Infinite mixes two different questions: which hero should I start the season with, and which hero is strongest once it has gear. The answers overlap less than you would think, so this page answers them separately.
SS14 Tartarus launches on 16 October 2026. Until there is real player data from the new season, the rankings below are where each hero stood at the end of SS13 Afterlight, which is the best guide to what will start Tartarus well. We will update them once the first week of SS14 data is in.
The short version
- Best league starters going into SS14: Selena 2, Erika 1, Youga 2 and Thea 3.
- Strongest endgame builds by player data: Rosa 2, Gemma's Frostbitten Heart, Bing 1, Iris 2 and Sage.
- Selena 2 is the one hero near the top of both lists.
- Youga gets a new trait in Tartarus, The Ultimate One. It is the one unknown to watch.
- Tier lists rank traits, not heroes. Moto 1 and Moto 2 can sit tiers apart.
How to read a Torchlight Infinite tier list
Every hero has several traits, and each trait changes the whole playstyle, so tier lists name them with a number: Selena 2, Erika 1. Always check the number before you follow a ranking. Our builds guide explains how a trait fits together with skills, talents and gear.
Also check what the list measures. Starter lists care about clearing the campaign and early Netherrealm with no gear. Endgame lists usually lean on player data, such as how often a build appears in the top Divine Ascension and Supreme Showdown rankings, which rewards builds with a lot of currency invested in them.
League starter tier list
This is the list to use in the first week of Tartarus. It is the SS13 starter ranking from PixelNitro, and these heroes have opened well for several seasons in a row.
| Tier | Heroes | Why |
|---|---|---|
| S | Selena 2, Erika 1, Youga 2, Thea 3 | Fast progression on little gear. Erika 1 farms currency fastest early, Youga 2 is the budget boss killer. |
| A | Sage, Moto 2, Carino 2, Gemma 2, Iris 2 | Reliable and comfortable, a step slower than the S tier |
| B | Rehan 2, Rosa 2, Bing 1, Gemma 3 | Strong later, but need investment before they come online |
| C | Moto 1, Youga 1, Gemma 1, Carino 1 | Playable, but another trait of the same hero does the job better |
Endgame tier list
Once a season is a few days old, the builds with the most currency behind them rise to the top. MMOexp's ranking, built on the first days of player data, looks like this.
| Tier | Builds | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| S | Rosa 2 (Unsullied Blade), Gemma (Frostbitten Heart), Bing 1 (Blastnova), Iris 2 (Vigilant Breeze), Sage | Top farming efficiency and steady boss damage |
| A | Selena 2, Rehan 2, Erika 1, Erika 3, Bing 2, Moto 2 | Strong all round, with Selena 2 especially good at clearing maps |
The same ranking flags Thea's Incarnation build as the weakest performer in Divine Ascension, so it is the one to avoid if you want to push.
What SS14 Tartarus could change
XD has confirmed one new hero trait for Tartarus: Youga's The Ultimate One. Youga 2 is already an S tier starter, so a new Youga trait is the most likely newcomer to the top of the list. How it plays will only be clear once people have run it. The season also adds a Netherrealm prison and followers, and either could favour builds that kill bosses fast over builds that clear wide. The SS14 Tartarus guide covers what is new, and our Torchlight Infinite classes list explains every trait, with a guide for each hero.
The safe plan for launch day is the same as every season: start on a hero from the S tier starter row above, and switch once the new rankings settle.
Why the two lists disagree
Rosa 2 and Bing 1 are B tier as starters and S tier at the end. They scale hard with gear and struggle before they have it. Thea 3 and Youga 2 do the opposite: excellent early, less dominant once everyone has gear. Selena 2 is the exception that does well on both lists, which is why it is the safest single pick of the season.
A good plan for most players: start on an S tier starter, farm currency with it, then roll one of the endgame scalers once you can afford to gear it.
If farming is all you care about
Farming rewards clear speed and cheap survival more than peak damage. Our best heroes for farming post goes through the picks for that goal, including which builds hold up when a bot is playing them. Selena 2, Erika 1 and Iris 2 come out well there too.
Common questions
What is the best hero in Torchlight Infinite right now?
Going into SS14 Tartarus, Selena 2 is the safest answer because it ranks high both as a starter and in the endgame. If you have the currency to invest, Rosa 2 and Bing 1 top the endgame rankings.
What is the best league starter for SS14 Tartarus?
Selena 2, Erika 1, Youga 2 and Thea 3 were the best starters in SS13, and all four progress quickly on little gear. Until Tartarus has its own data, they are the safest picks. Keep an eye on Youga's new trait, The Ultimate One.
How often does the tier list change?
Every season, and often within one. Balance patches and new traits move heroes around, and endgame rankings keep shifting for the first weeks as players find better gear.
