Torchlight Infinite SS14 Tartarus: release date and what is new

The next Torchlight Infinite season is SS14, Tartarus, and it launches on 16 October 2026. XD showed the season in its preview on 9 October: a prison you fill with captured enemies, followers you recruit, and a new trait for Youga. Here is what we know so far. We will add the balance details as players test them after launch.

Release date

XD ran the Tartarus season preview on 9 October and confirmed the launch for 16 October 2026. Players in the Americas get it on the evening of 15 October, at 7 PM PDT or 10 PM EDT. In Europe it is the early morning of the 16th, at 3 AM BST or 4 AM CEST. The official Torchlight Infinite site has the countdown.

That keeps Torchlight Infinite on its rhythm of four seasons a year, in January, April, July and October.

The season mechanic: a prison in the Netherrealm

Tartarus is named after its mechanic. Prisoners have escaped into the Netherrealm, and you track them down and defeat them to collect their nameplates. Nameplates fill the cells of a circular prison with 16 cells. Once they are locked up, the captured enemies fight and consume each other and grow stronger, and the stronger they get, the more they are worth when you take them on. In practice that makes the prison a farming investment: the longer you build it up, the bigger the payout.

How much it pays, and which cells to prioritise, is something players will work out in the first week. We will add it here once there is real data.

Followers

Tartarus also adds followers that you recruit from animal tribes, including wolves, rats and lions, using a new resource. How strong they are and which ones are worth recruiting first will be clear after launch.

Youga's new trait: The Ultimate One

XD's teaser confirms a new trait for Youga called The Ultimate One. How it plays is not public yet. What we do know is that Youga's current traits are already strong: Youga 2, Spacetime Elapse, has been one of the best budget league starters in recent seasons, thanks to damage over time that shreds bosses. A new trait on a hero with that track record is worth watching closely.

What we do not know yet

The exact balance changes, how the prison rewards compare with a normal Netherrealm map and how the new Youga trait plays at the top end. We will not guess at those here. Expect the first real numbers a few days after launch, once players have run enough maps.

How to get ready now

• Decide on a starter or two. Heroes that clear on no gear, like Selena 2, Erika 1 and Youga 2, have been the safest openers for several seasons. Our Torchlight Infinite tier list has the starters going into Tartarus.
• Know what carries over. Heroes, traits, Pactspirits and cosmetics come with you. Your characters and your Flame Elementium stay on the permanent server. The new season checklist covers it in detail.
• Plan your first week. The first days are when seasonal items sell for the most Flame Elementium, so a fast start pays off more than at any other time. Check for new redeem codes on launch day too.
• If you use a bot, plan for patch day. New seasons change the game, and bots need an update to match. Our guide to botting a new season explains how to handle it.
